Johnny Funderburg

10.22 funderburg 054My name is Johnny Funderburg.  I have been the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Pampa since August of 2004.  Prior to that, I pastored the First Baptist Church in Whitesboro, Texas, serving there for twelve years.  I have also pastored a couple of other churches in Texas and Missouri.

I was born June 26, 1960 in Breckenridge, Texas.  Graduated later from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.  Received my Masters of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.  Then finished with a Doctor of Ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Metro-Atlanta, Georgia, where my major fields of study were preaching and Biblical counseling.

Apart from my salvation, the greatest blessing of my life is my family.  Pam and I married in December of 1981.  Our daughter, Kristin, was born in August 1985.  Our son followed in January of 1991.  My wife was an MK (Missionary Kid) as her parents served in the Philippine Islands for more than twenty years.  She is a wonderful pastor's wife and a gifted, dedicated servant of the Lord.  My daughter is currently a teacher in the Canyon ISD, while my son is a college student.  Both my kids walk with God and are faithful in church.

I came to know Jesus as my Savior as a freshman in college.  Soon thereafter, begin to sense the Lord directing me toward ministry.  However, an event in 1997 proved to be another life-changing experience.  On January 19 of 1997 the house we were living in caught fire and burned to the ground.  We literally lost everything, getting out with only the clothes on our backs.  However, it was through that experience that God began a new work of grace in my life.  I like to call it a "Spirit-filled freedom."  It was in this encounter that God healed a number of old inner wounds and set my ministry on an exciting course.

One of the saddest statistics I have ever read records that the reason many people do not attend church is that it is "too boring."  Yet I know that when a person meets the Living Christ, discovers the fullness found in Jesus and begins to live out a life of loving God and others, that church literally comes to life.  And THAT CHURCH is not boring.

Barry Owens

3.18 owens 002My name is Barry Owens.  I am currently serving here at First Baptist Church as Minister of Music.  I have been here in that capacity since 2002.  I have graduate degrees from Abilene Cooper High School, Hardin-Simmons University, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

My wife, Francene, is currently the Music Teacher at Wilson Elementary School here in Pampa.  We have two children, Matt and Holly.  Matt and his family live in Forney, Tx.  He and his wife teach at Rockwall Heath High School in Rockwall, Tx.  They have a wonderful son, Caeden, who is four years old.  Holly is a junior at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Tx.  She is planning to be a Preschool or Kindergarten teacher.  I have had the privilege of serving the following churches in Texas:  Odessa, Hillsboro, Seminole, Stamford, and Abilene.

Carl Novian

10.28 novian 091I am a Texas native born in San Antonio. As a child growing up, my family moved to a number a Texas cities before landing in Kaufman, Texas in 1978. It was there I graduated High School in 1982 and met my wife-to-be later that year.

My wife, Dale Ann, and I were married in 1986. We have been blessed with a wonderful marriage and three beautiful daughters; Stacianne, Karlie and Rylee. Stacianne is now a graduate of West Texas A&M University. Karlie is currently attending the same school and Rylee is still at home

We owned and operated a successful construction business from 1990 to 1999. When I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior during a revival in 1994 at the age of 30, God blessed us even more. He blessed us financially but more importantly, He blessed us with a good church family and many friends. It was through these blessings at First Baptist Church of Kaufman that I grew spiritually, taught Sunday School, and eventually was ordained as a Deacon.

In 1998 I felt the call of God once again. I soon found myself discussing with my family the possibility of closing the business and serving God in full time ministry, not knowing exactly what that meant! In December 1999, after much prayer,  we found ourselves at First Baptist Church of Pampa accepting the position of Minister of  Education.

Since then our time at First has been a journey to say the least. We have laughed, cried, sweated, and celebrated  the ups and downs of life along with our church. Needless to say, my family and I have grown in so many ways. God has taught me that, if you simply love the people and serve Him in complete obedience, you can overcome any obstacle!

It is truly a privilege to serve the Lord and I look forward to what God has in store for my family and FBC in the future. I pray you will consider sharing it with us.

Jeremy Buck

2-10 buck 007I am a hometown boy, born and raised right here in Pampa and I grew up here at First Baptist Church, where I was baptized in 1989 and surrendered to the ministry in 1999. I later graduated from Pampa High in 2000. I then spent the next four years at Oklahoma Baptist University, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, graduating with a B.A. in Bible with a minor in Anthropology.

My wife, Karmen, also graduated that year from Oklahoma Baptist with a B.A. in Bible but with a minor in English as a Second Language. Karmen is from just down the road having grown up in Panhandle, Texas and graduated from Panhandle High in 2000. We met in 2000 and were married in December of 2002.

In the fall of 2004 we left the United States and headed for the Middle East for two years. We studied Arabic and traveled; while Karmen taught English and I studied Arab culture. We returned in November of 2006 with a deep love for Arabs and a greater appreciation of Middle Eastern culture and the Arabic language.

I began working as the student minister here at First Baptist in January of 2007. I have previously served here as both a youth intern and interim student minister. I have also served in Oklahoma as both a student minister and interim pastor. Karmen is an integral part of the student ministry here at FBC as she has just as strong a call to ministry and desire to serve as anyone.

We have one daughter, Karsen Lanie, born in November of 2009.

Karmen and I look forward to meeting and serving with you. Welcome to First Baptist.

Nikki Routh

10.22 routh 069I was born and raised in Midland, Texas. My family attended a small church in Midland and it was there that I came to know Christ. I am so thankful for the prayers of my church family as they supported me not only in my walk with Christ, but also in my decision to surrender to the call the Lord had put on my heart to work in children’s ministry.

In August of 2002, after graduating from Midland College with an associate’s degree in Child Development, I moved to Marshall to attend East Texas Baptist University. While in East Texas I had the opportunity to work with the preschool and children’s ministries at Caney Creek Baptist Church in Liberty City and at Calvary Baptist in Marshall.

In February of 2003 I went to work for Buckner Children and Family Services as an assistant director for their daycare in Marshall and then after graduating from ETBU moved on to Nacogdoches as the director for that Buckner daycare center. I loved my positions at Buckner but felt the call to go back into full time ministry. In October of 2006 I moved to Pampa to work for First Baptist Church as the Director of Children’s Ministries. I love working for a church that so lovingly supports their children in their walk with Jesus!

Tracy Bruce

09 12 bruce 205I was born and raised in Pampa and grew up attending this church. I was saved while attending Panfork camp in 1987. I was a member here at First Baptist until I moved to Abilene to attend college. In 1999, I earned a BA in Education Administration in Church Ministry from Hardin-Simmons University. I have served in various positions of music ministry and children's ministry in both Abilene and Amarillo, Texas as well as in Nashville and Clarksville, Tennessee.

After graduating college, I worked in music business and hotel management until being called to join the staff here at First Baptist in Pampa in 2008.

I am in my second year as director of the Child Development Center and I'm loving every minute of it. The CDC is entering our 30th year of ministry and I'm so excited to be a part of something so special. I attended the CDC as a child and I am honored to serve our wonderful families who currently attend.

I am married to Ryan, who is also a Pampa native, and we have a three year old son. Our daughter is due in May. We are glad to be back in our hometown with family and friends.
